Visitation
The Visitation dashboard tracks visitor numbers, origins, and travel patterns to help understand how people move around your region over time.
Filters and Controls
The Visitation dashboard is fully interactive.
All charts and tables respond instantly to filter changes at the top of the page or selections made directly on the map.
Selecting an Area
You can select the analysis area in two ways:
Via the Map – Click directly on a region (for example, a Tourism Region, SA3, or LGA) to set it as your analysis area. The map automatically updates the filters and outlines the selected boundary.
Via the Filters – Use the dropdowns at the top to manually choose your geographic scope.
Geography
Type of Area Defines the geographic unit of analysis:
Tourism Region
LGA (Local Government Area)
SA3
SA2
Suburb
Custom Region (if configured)
Area The specific area being analysed (for example, Brisbane or Mornington Peninsula). Determines the destination whose visitor numbers and origins are displayed.

Time
Granularity Defines how visitation is grouped:
Day – daily patterns and short-term event effects
Week – operational trend analysis
Month – seasonal and long-term tracking
Quarter – strategic year-on-year insights
Date Range The period being analysed (for example, 30 July 2025 – 27 October 2025). The dashboard automatically compares this period with the same timeframe last year.

Source Markets
Source Market Type Defines how visitor origins are grouped:
Origin SA3
Origin LGA
Origin State Filters by visitor’s home state or territory (for example, Queensland, Victoria, or New South Wales).
Origin SA3s Multi-select list for focusing on specific source markets. Includes Select all and Clear all options.

Visitor Type
Visitor Type Controls which groups are included:
All – includes locals and visitors
Local – residents from within defined local boundaries
Visitor – people from outside the local area
Local boundaries can be defined or adjusted through the configuration tool.

Visitation Snapshot
The Visitation Snapshot dashboard provides a single, comprehensive view of how visitor numbers and origins are changing over time. It combines total visitation trends, top origin markets, and ranked source areas into one unified interface — designed to track patterns, seasonality, and visitor flows into the selected area.
This dashboard shows:
Total visitation over the selected time period
Year-on-year change in visitor numbers
The top origin markets contributing to visitation
Market-level performance across SA3s/LGAs and states
All visualisations automatically update when you change filters or select areas on the map.

Map Integration
The Visitation Snapshot dashboard is directly connected to the interactive map. You can:
Click any region to make it the active analysis area
Switch between levels (for example, SA3 → LGA → Tourism Region)
Instantly view updated charts and rankings for the selected boundary
Map selections sync automatically with the top filters, enabling both spatial and temporal analysis in a single workflow.

Summary
The Visitation Snapshot dashboard brings together all key visitation metrics — total visitor trends, top origin markets, and market rankings — into one clear, interactive view. It supports quick, data-driven interpretation of:
Seasonal visitation movement
Year-on-year change by market
Local versus external visitor flows
Shifts in origin market contribution
By combining these perspectives with the interactive map and filters, it provides a complete picture of how visitation into your region is evolving over time.
